• A meal at Gentile’s, mmmmmmmmmm.

I’ve included Gentile’s in my Dave’s List, but after another meal there a few days ago, I’m thinking I may have miscategorized them. Though they have some scrumptious Italian dishes, their menu has influences and techniques from other countries. It would be glib to characterize it as fusion cuisine, but let’s just say that the chef, Kevin Gentile, has mastery of a multitude of culinary techniques, and more importantly, a very fertile imagination that produces exciting, creative dining.

My wife had the wonderful duck dish, which had a luxuriously-spiced savory sauce. It inspired her to describe Kevin as the King of Sauces. My own meal was Crispy Scallops, also with a luscious lemon-based sauce, and very tasty vegetables (an afterthought at many restaurants).

As a bonus, everybody we spoke with there, and I mean everybody, was extremely welcoming and friendly. You’re made to feel like a member of the family there – it’s just a family that has much better food than yours! Very pleasing atmosphere there, too. Though not necessary, as it’s not stuffy, you could get dressed to the nines and have a romantic date there.

It’s one of the most creative and excellent restaurants in Syracuse. Do yourself a favor and go there!
    Gentile’s: 305 Burnet Ave, Syracuse, (315) 474-8258
