• MODx and WordPress

If you’re looking to build a website with MODx or WordPress, there’s a good chance that I can help you.  Alternatively, maybe you already have a site using those systems that needs new features or isn’t working correctly. I have a lot of experience with both systems.

To illustrate, here are some common scenarios:

    • You already have a design for your site. You would like this design incorporated into a live site, and you also have some features planned that you want to have. You may want to be able to update the site yourself. MODx and WordPress are often very well suited for this, and I can provide guidance as to which system would work best, or can recommend other appropriate systems if your needs go beyond what these systems can handle. This is the most common scenario I work with; integrating all the elements needed for a site, making sure everything is working, and making it go live!
    • Convert your Graphic Design into a Template. Similar to above, but simpler: you have a couple designs that you’d like turned into a MODx or WordPress template, or even into simple XHTML and CSS. I can produce these from PSD or other image formats.
    • You’re getting a strange error on your MODx or WordPress site. Maybe just one small part of the site doesn’t work, or worse yet, your site doesn’t work at all! I am a very tenacious troubleshooter, and enjoy the challenge of figuring out this type of problem. For example, one somewhat scary situation is when your site has been working perfectly, you’ve changed nothing on it, yet something goes wrong. Or quite commonly, when adding a new feature to your existing site, things stop working although everything was fine before the change. Though some problems may require major surgery, in some cases a small, inexpensive fix will do the trick!
    • Site Appearance Details. Your site is working great, nearly everything is fine. But one part of it looks a little bit funny, and is driving you crazy. Or maybe your site looks mostly flawless, but you find out long after the fact that your site really looks bad in a certain type of browser.  You talk to your designer, and they shrug and say, well, it looks great on my Mac with its 24″ monitor.   They may not be focusing on details such as multiple browser testing, site hosting approaches, usability, search engine optimization (aka SEO), and other geeky stuff.  This is where I come in – I have a decent sense of design, yet I also am happy to get my hands dirty if necessary to solve problems.
    • You’re curious about building a site with WordPress or MODx (or some other system!), but you don’t have a design yet, and you may also be interested in making a site logo. I can work with you to get a simple, effective design with nice color combinations. And I would enjoy helping you design a logo if needed.  I enjoy doing designs, and can make you an attractive, functional design for considerably less than big-city rates.
    • You want a new WordPress or MODx feature, but you’re not sure how to install it, or you did install it, and now your site doesn’t work.

I will consider work on an ongoing or ad hoc basis. Because of the nature of the web, and the location of many of my clients, most of my work is done at a distance. I’m very comfortable and productive working this way, and I want my clients to be comfortable, too, so I stay in touch via email, Google and AIM chat,  Skype, phone, or other means as necessary. I offer excellent quality work at competitive prices.  Contact me and tell me about your project, or take a look at some examples of my work.

Just to clarify, I sometimes get one-sentence emails that say “How much do you charge for a website?”  Well, it does vary – making a 1-page brochure site is different from building the next Amazon.com.  So providing some detail will get a better answer.  Most of my work is for clients in larger cities than mine.  This indicates to me that my work has the sophistication that they require, yet is value-priced.
