I’m very pleased to report that my favorite local taqueria*, Ponchito’s, has passed its one year milestone! In the restaurant business, the first year is very tough, a make-or-break proposition. Despite their somewhat obscure location, over on New Court Av., word has gotten around enough that they’re good and busy. And I’m very pleased to see it happen for this friendly, family operation!
Of all the eateries we’ve visited this year, we’ve probably visited Panchito’s more than any other local restaurant. They always have excellent burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and more. And it’s fresh – no reheated frozen food here (other restaurants: hint hint). In addition, Frank’s creative mind keeps regularly coming up with new variations, sauces, and whole dishes. It’s a LOT of great food for a very reasonable price.
I’m often puzzled as to why many restaurants continue to have exactly the same menu forever, even if they’re not corporate. As far as I can tell, the only way to pull this off is if they have a huge client base that hates change. I can think of one quite popular local Italian restaurant like that, which we found to be wretched.
We’ll be eating regularly at Panchito’s throughout the coming year, and I wish them even more success! It’s fun to see these Italian guys produce such tasty Latin-American roadside food! I still have trouble spelling it the way they do instead of “Panchito’s”, which is actual Spanish.
Congratulations! !!Felicitaciones!!
